Hostel Sofia, located in the centre of Tampere has been awarded Hostel of the Year 2010 by Hostelling International Finland. The board of HI Finland selected the winner from 65 HI Finland hostels.
The board gave several reasons for selecting Hostel Sofia. ”The board paid special attention to Hostel Sofia’s cooperation ability with HI Finland; the hostel has utilized the services provided by HI Finland in an active way and it has been proven to be a professionally run accommodation establishment”, says the Secretary General of HI Finland Ari J. Aalto.
When selecting the winner the board of HI Finland also paid attention to good customer feedback which gave the most praise to the cleanliness of the hostel and the friendliness of its staff. Hostel Sofia is easily accessible to customers, as the hostel can also be booked online on hihostels.com.
Hostel Sofia operated formerly under the name of Hostel Tampereen NNKY and was open only in the summer. The hostel is still run by the NNKY, or Young Women's Christian Association, of Tampere, but after the complete renovation in 2007 the hostel changed its name and started year-round operation. Thanks to this the availability of hostel accommodation in Tampere was secured even though the traditional Hostel Uimahallin Maja closed its doors for the last time two years ago.
