Are you planning on travelling this year but don’t know where and how to travel? Want to find out all about this year’s travel trends, destinations and goals? The following article offers six travel tips based on travel trends for 2019. We would like to prepare you for this year’s travel season as best as possible and help you achieve the best travel experience.
1. Top destinations are top destinations for a reason
There are many cities and attractions that you simply must see and are simply worth visiting. Who doesn’t want to visit the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris or the iconic Colosseum in Rome? Long queues often discourage people from visiting these attractions, but all this can now be avoided by purchasing tickets online. This means there’s more time left to experience the city in a different way. You can attend cooking classes where you can learn how to cook as a true Parisian, or participate in a street art workshop where you can learn how to draw graffiti. Walking tours of ancient cities can often be strenuous, so we recommend a vintage bike ride instead.
2. Make the most of your time
Set your travel goals prior to your trip, so that you won’t miss out on everything you’re interested in. Visit the Hostelling International Slovenia’s treasure trove of travelogues and pick the one that interests you. There’s a website with all available tours and trips for your destination and its surroundings and you can choose one that interests you, since it’s always easier when you have an expert opinion. You should also spend some time aimlessly wandering through the city. That way you’ll surely discover something special.
3. Travel should be relaxing
In this fast-paced world, when your schedule is filled by studying, jobs and extra projects, and when you don’t have much time for your loved ones, travel should be a time of relaxation. Set out for a tranquil landscape where you can put your mind to rest while walking in nature and where others will take care of you. Therefore take time to visit a spa, like the one near Quito, Ecuador, or spend your holidays on Lake Tahoe near San Francisco.
4. Socially conscious travel
Travelling has a lot of positive effects on the environment you’re travelling to, though people are writing and talking more and more about the negative impact of tourism on local communities and the irreversible changes it causes to the environment. That’s why you should try planning your trip and travelling in a way that will minimise the impact on the environment you’re travelling to. People use more resources and produce more waste when travelling, therefore you should behave abroad as you would at home. Look into sustainable offers with concern for the environment and society. You could, for example, explore nature reserves, such as the one in New Zealand where you can go on a night tour to see the kiwi and get to know this bird species.
5. Travel back in time
Explore the landscape and culture of the past. Travel to places where the past can still be strongly felt at every turn you take, and experience time running slowly like in the old days. Take the steam train in the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye, just like people used to back in the days, or explore life in the past with Argentinian gaucho.
6. Solo trips
Independency is becoming important in 2019. There’s a lot of emphasis on personal freedom and satisfaction. There are more people with flexible schedules and the number of single people is growing, which is why 2019 is the year of solo trips. Go trekking in the Himalayas where you’ll have time for some self-discovery. Or, you could explore a little bit differently and go on a photo expedition around big cities, such as London, where you’ll have plenty of time to make a perfect photo.
