Today, let's journey to Portugal. If you're planning to explore the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, don't miss the chance to set aside a day to visit the amazing place called Cabo da Roca.
This is a beautiful place to experience the sensation of standing at the edge of the world and enjoy the sound of waves and breathtaking landscapes. Have you ever dreamed of such a thing? If you are thinking to yourself now that "yes", then Cabo da Roca is precisely the destination you should visit. Looking from the cliff at the majestic, tumultuous ocean, you can easily imagine that the whole land ends here, and the endless expanses of the sea begin. And this feeling is truly indescribable. So, let's take a walk around this beautiful place together and just imagine for a few minutes the sound of waves crashing on the rocks below and the sound of the wind in our ears.
The cape itself is 140 metres high above sea level. The Portuguese name "Cabo da Roca" simply means "Rocky cape". At the beginning of the journey, walking along the cape, we can find a monument on which the geographical coordinates of the area are indicated, and the words of the Portuguese poet Luis Vaz de Camoens are given: "Here the land ends and the sea begins." Well, let's enjoy the stunning views and capture the beauty of this place through our lenses.
The cape offers stunning views of the endless ocean. Close your eyes, slowly inhale the fresh ocean air, then open your eyes and look far into the distance. And at this moment, each of us will feel a variety of sensations close only to him alone that can be felt here and now.
After a series of beautiful photos, we will go for a walk in the other direction. We will find exciting flowers along the way. They bizarrely cover the entire cape like a carpet. They are very unusual and give this place an additional charm.
Then, we will go towards the lighthouse. The lighthouse at Cabo da Roca, one of the oldest in Portugal, is still in operation, and its light is visible at a distance of 46 kilometres. Not far from the lighthouse, we can find a small souvenir shop. If you are interested in an unusual souvenir, you can purchase a personalised certificate that mentions your visit to the westernmost point of Europe.
Well, if you are an adventurous person like me, then you can arrange a little adventure in the form of a hiking trail and go down to the wild beaches to the ocean. From the lighthouse, there are several paths leading downhill. Although, I must caution that this may not be suitable for everyone. The road to the beach is quite steep, and you must be confident enough to go down such a steep slope. In my case, it was worth it.
The sound of the ocean surf and crashing waves on the rocks. A wild sandy beach where you are almost alone, on which you can walk barefoot and feel a little cool, but still pleasant sand. And the incredible power and energy of water and nature. That's what you can feel in this place: going down to the beach to the ocean. So now it's up to you to decide how adventurous you are and what discoveries you are ready for.
A visit to Cabo da Roca will certainly not leave you indifferent. In such a place, you can feel like a little person, like a small grain of sand, because you definitely feel the boundless power of nature surrounding you. It's also interesting because you can catch new sensations inside yourself. I hope you've enjoyed our walk today. Until we meet again in another amazing corner of this planet, stay open to the wonders of the world.
