For the beginning, let’s all play a song from Slovenian band Ansambel bratov Avsenik. They sing about Slovenian beauty. All set? Ok. Let’s go for a trip around Slovenia. Do you know Slovenia? This little country offers so much. Kind people, good food, beautiful nature wherever your eye will rest. Take a week or two just for Slovenia and explore a piece of its nature or its cities. Have you ever climbed a mountain? You can climb on Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain. Or maybe you know that Slovenia is beautiful and you never took the time to visit it. Hills, mountains, sea and valleys... All this waits for your visit. If you’re looking for a hostel, take a look on the Hostelling International website where you will definitely find something for you. Hostel is a great choice when you want cheap and quality accommodation and get to know some people. So what are you waiting for? Go! Slovenian tourist attractions are waiting.
Of course
Hostelling International Slovenia can give you some tourism advice. If you want some travelling inspiration for a good hostel, visit the website
Say Hi to Slovenia, which can be a good starting point for your next visit to Slovenia. Did you know that Slovenia is a part of the Alps-Adria Region? This is why Hostelling International Slovenia created a website
Say Hi to Alpe Adria that also shares some travelling advice with you.
Let me share some beautiful places with you. Here are six Slovenian destinations that won’t disappoint you.
The firs suggestion is our capital city. No one can deny that
Ljubljana isn’t a beautiful city. It has a beautiful castle with a view on the whole city, Dragon Bridge and if you want some romance while travelling, you can take a boat ride on Ljubljanica river and see all the bridges from the river. And for the end of your tourist visit, go see the greatest Slovenian poet France Prešeren on Prešeren Square who also wrote the lyrics for the Slovenian anthem. Where to sleep? There’s
Hostel Tresor near Prešeren Square that is a little bit different from others. Every room is named after a different currency. And the building was once a bank vault that was turned into a hostel.
Let’s continue with
Maribor, Ljubljana’s eternal rival. It is a university city with soul and charm that you won’t find anywhere else. If you want a fun fact, the first light bulb was lit by a Slovene here. Today the city is known after Lent festival and theatre festival. The first happens at the end of June and the second at the end of October. If you want, you can read some more interesting things in the
online newspaper Globetrotter (Globetrotter, by the way, comes out every month and offers great travelling tips and travelogues)
Let’s visit Maribor. You can find your accommodation in
Hostel Pekarna that is on the other side of the Drava river but still close enough to see everything by foot. Great hostel, Maribor and a group of travellers. What more can you wish for?
Let’s visit the sea. If would be a shame to leave out the Slovenian coast as it offers beautiful sea-side cities. One of the biggest is
Koper that really stepped up in the last few years. The promenade is calling you to take an evening stroll and there’s also a lot of possibilities to take a swim in the sea. Did you know that the history of Koper began 1500 BC and that Koper was once an island. Its architecture is therefor very rich. You will find Praetorian Palace and Da Ponte fountain that is a reproduction of the bridge in Venice. But don’t just read about it, you have to see all the attraction.
Hostel Histria will offer you an accommodation. It is also good to know that the hostel is a good choice for groups.
If we stay in Primorska it would be a pity not to visit
Postojna and
Postojna cave. Postojna Cave now offers a brand new attractions. Little baby dragons, also known as proteus. Proteus laid 64 eggs and now we’re getting some new inhabitants of Postojna Cave. Predjama with its castle is also interesting. The castle goes back to 13th century. Or visit Postojna’s museum and learn more about Karst. Do you want to stay a couple of days? No problem. Find an accommodation in the
hostel Proteus.
Our volunteer Aleš Oblak wrote that
Celje is a city of counts and graffiti. Celje offers a lot of museums and beautiful buildings that you can find in the city centre. And castle Celje is a must-see. It was first mentioned in 1323 and was inhabited by counts of Celje. Live History is an every-day event that happens on the castle in summer. Visitors can sword-fight, shoot with a bow or flirt with castle princesses. The city was really modernized in the last few years. There’s a beautiful promenade by the river where you can take a walk or drink a cup of coffee and city centre offers great restaurants that will leave every eater satisfied.
Hostel Celje offers you 11 thematically furnished rooms. How are they furnished? You will have to see for yourself.
If you haven’t been in
Bled yet, we don’t know what you’re waiting for. Maybe you waited for this article, maybe you haven’t found time yet. But we strongly recommend to visit Bled. Tourism on Bled is very developed and you will be amazed. Vintgar Gorge is one of the most beautiful things you’ll find in Slovenia and if you’re a keen hiker, you won’t be disappointed by the mountains that rise above Bled. Mountains Straža, Ojstrica, Osojnica or Grad. The choice is yours. You will find Triglav national park near Bled and with that comes the Vrata Valley, Bohinj, Pokljuka gorge and much more. You can’t miss the beauty. And we’re sure that you will get even more advice on what to visit in
hostel Bledec where you can find your accommodation.
Slovenia offers a lot of beauties. Were you familiar with all that you read? Or more important – did you visit all the destinations? Even though it’s a small country, we have everything for you. Plan your trip, the attractions are waiting. Maybe take a bike and the adventure is here. Let’s go!
