The Youth Hostels are visibly different: they are more comfortable, they offer more privacy, they are in prime locations, they provide a wider range of services and commercial programmes, and they still have affordable prices, offering a very good price/quality ratio.
From North to South and from East to West, there are
42 hostels operating in Portugal. Totalling 3600 beds, they meet a demand that has been growing in recent months.
Although Youth Hostels are accessible to people of all ages, their philosophy is more geared toward younger people. They are meeting places between people of different regions and nationalities, being therefore a place of social and cultural exchange.
They are divided into four segments – cultural/historical hostels, nature/adventure hostels, beach hostels and urban hostels. This is intended to make the choice easier, according to the client motivation and to the main tourist resources associated with each hostel.
Most of the Youth Hostels offer different room types such as twin rooms with bathroom, dormitory rooms and apartments. The majority offers facilities like lounges, meeting rooms, meal service, and some of them have laundry and kitchen for the guest to use, swimming pool and sports facilities.
