The new Ostkreuz Youth Hostel will open in July
Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building, Pergamon museum, famous shopping areas, clubs and concerts – there are many attractions and sights in Berlin. People from all over the world meet in the German capital.
Surprisingly inexpensive – that's what people say about Berlin. Compared to other world class cities, the German capital is known as a hip destination offering great value for the money. And visitors don't necessarily need to dig deep into their pockets to have a rich variety of experiences across the city. Even if your budget's tight, there's still a lot to do. It's the unanimous conclusion of many globetrotters, school classes and lovers of weekend breaks: going to Berlin and joining in the fun does not have to cost the world, but the memories will definitely be priceless.
Brandenburg Gate is Berlin's most famous landmark. A symbol of Berlin and German division during the Cold War, it is now a national symbol of peace and unity. The Reichstag building with the famous glass dome is one of the most frequently visited sights in Berlin. It is the seat of the German parliament, the Bundestag. The so-called Museum Island is a unique ensemble of five museums, built on a small island in the Spree River. The entire complex is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
And there are many more attractions: Over 170 museums and exhibitions, e.g.: "The Story of Berlin", Checkpoint Charlie, Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery), Anne Frank Museum, Egyptian Museum, Bode Museum, GDR museums, Jewish Museum, Altes Zeughaus (Old Arsenal), and many more.
Famous buildings are the TV tower, Victory Column, House of the Cultures of the World, and countless others. Lively squares and streets are to be found at Potsdamer Platz, Friedrichstrasse and of course Alexanderplatz.
Cultural and entertainment events: Blue Man Group and an abundance of musicals, theatres and cabarets. Sports events in the Olympic stadium, the O2 Arena, or Max Schmeling Hall and other attractive sports events such as the six-day racing event, ISTAF (Gala event at the Olympic stadium) or Berlin Marathon.
