The Salzkammergut with its fascinating mountains and romantic villages is the perfect place to spend your winter holidays. Holiday destination Bad Ischl is famous not only for its connection to the Habsburger dynasty but also for its thermal spa. The nearby skiing-region Dachstein-West and its partner regions offer 119 kilometres of varied runs and 58 modern lifts.
Bad Ischl is a picturesque town full of culture and history. Emperor Franz Joseph and empress Sisi used to spend their holidays here. You can still find traces of the Habsburger dynasty such as the beautiful emperor’s villa. But there’s something with an even longer tradition in Bad Ischl: the white gold – salt. In 1563 the first adit opened in Bad Ischl and in the early 19th century they started to use salt for medical purposes. That’s how Bad Ischl became a spa resort.
Today the various pools and grottos of the thermal spa reflect the region’s motto – “salt and brine”. Guests of the
youth hostel Bad Ischl can buy tickets at reduced prices for the spa. If you book the package “Skiing at Dachstein-West”, a 4-hour admission to the spa is already included. So be sure to take some time to relax for the next day on the skiing slope.
The Dachstein-West region and its partner regions offer not only 119 perfectly prepared piste kilometres but also 14 fun slopes with speed measurement and moguls and fun parks with small and medium sized kickers and obstacle lines. Since this winter-season there is a connected “panoronda” cruisers’ ski circuit with a total length of 44 kilometres. To give your weary limbs a break after a day of skiing, take a break and enjoy the traditional atmosphere of the ski lodges. Don’t forget to try some traditional Austrian food like Kaiserschmarren.
The hostel is located in the centre of Bad Ischl. All rooms are ensuite and breakfast is included. You can either book only the hostel or the package “Skiing at Dachstein-West” which additionally includes dinner, a 3- or 5-day skipass for the Dachstein-West-Region, an admission to the thermal bath for 4 hours and Salzkammergut-Erlebniscard for various discounts.
