Ajdovščina in Vipava valley
The fertile and wine-growing Vipava Valley, the region of sun, wine and friendly people, has always invited people to inhabit it. It flourished already at the time of the Roman Empire, which is proved by a number of historic sites.
The visitors most easily meet the friendly locals on the Vipava wine road and a few times a year at the so-called "osmica". They will be served traditional Vipava meals and home made wines.
A large portion of the Ajdovščina municipality occupies the Trnovo Plateau. The villages Predmeja, Otlica, Kovk and Gozd are by the locals referred to with a common name Gora. The particularity of this region is the local tradition reflected in stone walls - stone heaps, which the first inhabitants used to mark their land, the water collectors - basins, served for watering the livestock, and wells in front of every house. The arranged walking trails lead to the wonders of nature: Window of Otlica (natural stone window), stone spiral, ice caves and other caves. The mountain is a home to many plants and animals, some of which found only on this paradise stretch of the Slovene territory.
Working hand in hand with different partners, the Hostel Ajdovščina provides its guests with a vast range of sport activities. In harmony with the latter trend, the Ajdovščina Hostel is collaborating with outsource partners (different biologists, ecologists, environmentalists) and developing a program which would actively educate youth trough environmental protection camps, planned to last a few days, where participants would gain some theoretical knowledge as well as some practical experience out on the field.
The Hostel Ajdovščina in open all year round.
