Globetrotter, an online magazine which keeps its readers up to date on a monthly basis with its newsletters featuring information about new hostels, HI discounts and travel tips, is run by volunteers under the auspices of Hostelling International Slovenia. The magazine’s content is created by travel writers, who share their experiences with others, and by proof-readers, translators and promoters. The magazine has more than 11 thousand subscribers across the globe. It’s available in Slovenian and English.
This year Hostelling International Slovenia submitted their Spletni časopis Globetrotter (Globetrotter Online Magazine) competition to the Naj prostovoljski projekt competition organised by Mladinski svet Slovenije (National Youth Council of Slovenia), or MSS for short. The MSS announced the competition for the 17th time this year with the aim to select the best volunteers, the best volunteer project, the best youth leader and the best youth project for the previous year. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, 11 June 2019, in the diplomatic protocol building in Brdo pri Kranju and was conducted under the honorary auspices of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. The project aims at promoting voluntary work, with which organisers try to encourage all the participants and offer symbolic gratitude for their voluntary service.
The five of us, volunteers Tjaša, Petra, Nika and Nastja, together with Anja Žepič, the Globetrotter online magazine editor, attended the reception in Brdo pri Kranju where the event was held. We competed in the Best Project Category and received an award.
The award is very important to us because it confirms that the team of volunteers is doing an excellent job and at the same time it’s also a reward for all our endeavours.
