A new, very spectacular hostel recently joined the HI network. The Jumbo Hostel located at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, Sweden is exactly what it is called – a hostel in a jumbo jet.
Hostellers have always had a lot of interesting choices when it comes to staying at usual hostels within the HI network. There are hostels in trains, ships, former prisons, tree houses, lighthouses and castles. Now it is also possible to stay in an aeroplane.
The Jumbo Hostel in Stockholm-Arlanda is one of a kind. It is a Boeing 747 located a 3 minute ride on the free shuttle bus from the Arlanda airport terminals. It offers 25 rooms and a total of 85 beds. All rooms are equipped with TV and WIFI free of charge.
The different room categories can accommodate one to three adults in comfort, and there is also a dormitory option. The more demanding guest will probably be attracted by the luxury suite in the converted cockpit, ensuite and with a panoramic view of the airport.
The hostel is not only a place to stay. Non house guests are also very welcome onboard for a coffee or a snack at the onboard café. In the summertime, it is also possible to walk along the left wing observation deck and experience the feeling of standing on top of a real Jumbo Jet’s wing.
