Ljubljana always had a wide diversity of culinary delights, but in a couple of years we have transformed from a fine dining to all sorts of food enjoyment there is. We have some amazing chefs and restaurants, but we also realized that food can be serious but also a fun and fulfilling.
A few year ago Ljubljana opened a food market, called
Open kitchen in the middle of the city centre, where all the master chefs from Slovenia and abroad are cooking their food. And it changed the way we think dining should be like. Every Friday from May to September you are able to enjoy great varieties of food from Slovenian restaurants. Their great initiative to bring world class food to the streets brought a major change in Ljubljana food scene. And now you see all kinds of food festivals popping out, from
Chilli festival, to
burgers and sausages ... We are going back to our roots and joining food with music, hanging out with friends and making it as one of our center points of interest.
From festivals to cooking classes and cooking tours to even bringing some class back to home kitchens.
Tresor is jumping on this wagon with culinary delights on its own. As we wrote on one of our latest
blogs, we are adding more and more food related festivals to our event collection. We already established
Palačinkanje nights, which are basically pancake nights. Every Friday we get the best pancake chef, who just happens to be a part of marvellous stuff, and before you head out for the night in the town, you fill your stomach with delicious pancakes.
During the summer we organized
Slovenian nights with music, discussions and food. We had loads of fun doing that and you can check us having fun on our
Facebook page for pictures and updates. Since people seem to really enjoy learning how to say »this is delicious« in Slovene after tasting some of Slovene traditional dishes, we decided to continue with this tradition once a month in autumn as well.
Every Saturday morning we offer a fresh and delicious Slovenian breakfast. You will have the chance to meet some Slovenian peeps that are joining us, so it is kind of an open thing for us, especially during the weekends. And and and and... this is not all folks! We are focusing our thoughts on
World Food Day on 16th of October. We will deliver an event on this year’s topic of Social protection and Agriculture.
Visit Ljubljana is organizing two great food events in October. It will be all about wine and chocolate. Two of our favourite things and something that will warm you up in cold months ahead of us. We are really excited for what else will be popping out this season.
Our Trubarjeva Street is slowly becoming an international food street, with all kind of foods, starting from sausage corner to vegetarian restaurants and ice cream stands. In one corner you can try some traditional Slovene sausages and just on the other side you can enjoy Lebanese cuisine. You can also try some great wrappings from Turkey or Bengal restaurant and just a couple of days ago we also got a new American BBQ restaurant. Off course we also got some great international food like Mexican, Brazilian, Japan and Indian and they are all in walking distance, ready to be explored.
For opinion about "small culinary revolution in Slovenian capital" as well as for the main reasons for the “revolution”, we asked Mrs Iva Gruden, journalist, photojournalist, gourmet, and the founder of the web portal
Ljubljananjam.si that is a web site which offers an online place where you can ‘taste’ Ljubljana and research its culinary scene. "I'm constantly searching for new ideas and developments in Ljubljana culinary scene. Only then I can give to my guests best advice what, considering their taste, is worth to try and recommend what may be interesting for them. The main cause for this revolution, hmm... we would have to ask every chef. Maybe the reason is timing, every town has its own. Probably this is also a result of imagination that was on a break. "And finally which culinary events are a must see? "I like all culinary events, festivals... for example
Čokoljana,
Beer and Burger Fest, our blogger festival
Yummy stories, and Ljubljana in December... It is difficult to highlight only one.’’
So the whole culinary world is slowly moving to Ljubljana streets, filling it up with great food. We love this trend and hope it will grow as a great soufflé. We are always hungry for more!
