HOP hostel Pekarna in Maribor is one of the most hospitable hostels in Slovenia. It was awarded the first place and the title “The most hospitable youth accommodation” in the My country – beautiful and hospitable competition. The latter was organised by Tourist Association of Slovenia, which was also present at the 2021 celebration in honour of HOP hostel Pekarna’s tenth anniversary. As an approval of the quality of its work, the hostel received an award, confirming the good and successful activity of the accommodation establishment of the Pekarna Cultural Centre and its various buildings where both young and old generations of guests intermingle. The complex was built in the early 20th century when the Austro-Hungarian army built a building for the purpose of bread production for the military post. In 2011, HOP hostel Pekarna saw the light of day in that very place, and it’s quite an interesting choice for May holidays with its diverse offer. We’re introducing Velenje Youth Hostel as part of our spring offer. This is a unique opportunity to book your stay in Velenje. The tourist accommodation unit is linked to the Velenje Youth Centre by common areas, which operates as a logistic and functional centre for young people in the areas of development, information and education as well as social matters, cultural activities, entertainment and social integration of young people. Velenje Youth Centre connects the Youth Hostel Velenje, Centre for Children and Youth, Kunigunda – a regional multimedia centre, and the EVS – European Voluntary Service – or ESC – European Solidarity Corps. The hostel can accommodate up to 120 guests and it offers various activities, such as lectures, workshops, dancing activities and birthday celebrations for children. The Trbovlje Youth and Sports Institute attracts guests with its modern facilities where the natural heritage of the Zasavje region is presented by wall paintings. Being a centre of multicultural society, it’s an open space where people of various nationalities, religions and cultures meet. The Youth Hostel Trbovlje is a friendly hostel for large groups, families, people with disabilities and pets. Affordable prices of dorms, double rooms and the suite with a kitchen go hand-in-hand with the breakfast and dinner or breakfast, lunch and dinner package. The staff have put a great emphasis on group fun and socialising, so they organise concerts, club games evening and other events for their guests throughout the year, and they’re purpose is for young people to hang out and have fun. In addition to the café and hotel services, the Trbovlje Youth and Sports Institute also organises activities for young people, which are part of the national youth programme and the European co-operation programme in the youth field. There’s really nice accommodation just 50 metres from Lake Bled, right next to the bus station – Hostel Bus Station Beds, Bled. It offers multiple ten- and eight-bed dorms and quad rooms, which include a fridge, free Wi-Fi and a balcony. The hostel staff have made sure travellers with an adventurous spirit can rent a bike and explore the natural and cultural attractions in Bled, a town that has been promoting green tourism and proudly showing off its gold label of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. In 2019, Bled was awarded second place in sustainability in Europe as part of an international non-governmental Green Destinations project, and it’s a member of the Alpine Pearls since 2008, a group that promotes sustainable mobility. In Bled, you can explore the Bled island which is home to the Church of the Mother of God and its wishing bell that attracts visitors from all over the world. Other attractions worth visiting include the Vintgar Gorge, Triglav National Park and Bled Castle, where you can visit a Gothic chapel with baroque illusionistic frescoes. Hostel Proteus Postojna was built anew on top of the foundations of the Grand Hotel Adelsberg in the 1980s. The Grand Hotel was once a desirable accommodation for the residents of the Gulf of Trieste, foreign guests and the ruling European aristocrats. The hostel now offers triple rooms and altogether 120 beds, plus there are extra 100 beds available in the summer in order to meet the needs of tourism. Guests can take part in archery practice three times a week, shooting with air gun at the shooting range in the hostel’s basement four times a week, and a tennis match at the Postojna Sports Park, which is located 50 metres from the hostel. The equipment can be rented at the hostel. There’s bicycle repair and maintenance service, bike rental, cycling guide books and a bicycle shed available for all cycling enthusiasts. Nearby is Adventure Park Postojna which offers a challenge for every visitor. With eighty-eight obstacles, everyone can have fun and spend their free time actively outdoors. Another special experience for travellers is a guided tour where you can visit the habitat of the brown bear, though it needs to be booked in advance.
