Hiking on Pulpit Rock

Have you never hiked on Pulpit Rock? It’s absolutely amazing! Stunning! Breathtaking! These are the words that are often used to describe the famous Norwegian rock formation - the Pulpit Rock.

Content
After a 4-kilometre hike you will be on the cliff which was formed during the ice age. 600 metres down you overlook on the Ryfylke region and the beautiful Lysefjorden. The adventurous will go all the way out to the tip of the rock to get an even better view, and those of us who are more comfortable 15-metres away from the tip will stay further in. The Pulpit Rock has become increasingly popular in the last few years, but make sure you visit it when the weather is good, the hike is doable and you can see the entire region and the fjord below your feet.

If you haven’t had enough hiking by climbing the Pulpit Rock, why not try the mountain Kjerag. It might be less famous but it is equally beautiful. This formation has one rock stuck between two mountains – a popular spot for picture taking and adrenaline testing. Do you dare to stand on it?

After a day of hiking and sightseeing you’ll need a nice and affordable place to stay. The Southwestern region of Norway has many good hostels, whether you are looking for an urban or a rural experience. Stay at Preikestolen Hostel (The Pulpit Rock Hostel) or Lysefjorden Hostel, and you can experience various outdoor activities such as ziplining or canoeing. Choose Ryfylke Hostel Vaulali where you can play volleyball outside and relax on the large grass lawns, or travel to Stavanger where our two hostels offer everything you need from a city break. Stavanger is a rather expensive city as it is known as the oil capital of Norway, so staying at a hostel is good value for money that we can easily recommend. From all the hostels mentioned you can get to the Pulpit Rock and Kjerag. See hihostels.no for more details and booking.
